Peak Oil

Oil extraction has peaked and will now decline how ever humanities energy usage is increasing.

In May 2001 a statement from the National Energy Policy produced by vice president Dick Cheney's National Energy Policy Development Group (NEPDG) stated that "America 20 years from now will import nearly two of every three barrels of oil - a condition of increased dependency on foreign powers that do not always have America's interests at heart." Clearly since then America has been transplanting the hearts of foreign powers with new carefully selected America friendly hearts. This has been done by out and out war and now 2012 by fermenting revolution in Arab states. The Arab Spring.

Wars are in progress for control of oil in the Eurasian continent including the Middle East, the Caspian Basin and Central Asia.

The race is on with China for control of energy and other resources.

The problem of peak oil is serious;

  • Some believe that the population of 6.5 billion people needs to be reduced by 4 billion people in order to avoid catastrophe.
  • If fertilisers, partial irrigation and pesticides were withdrawn, corn yields would drop to 25% of current values.
  • To produce a food of 1KJoule 10KJoules of energy are being used. Humanity indirectly eats energy.
  • The US contains 5% of the world population and consumes 25% of the worlds energy.
  • Much of the world remains ravaged by the massive artificially engineered debt to the World Bank and the IMF.

  • 2001 "STRATEGIC ENERGY POLICY CHALLENGES FOR THE 21ST CENTURY" Report of an Independent Task Force Sponsored by the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy of Rice University and the Council on Foreign Relations.
  • Rebuilding America's Defenses - Strategy, Forces and Resources for a New Century "And advanced forms of biological warfare that can "target" specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool." - page 60. Editor's note: The "New Century" belongs to Iceland, Denmark, Germany and every nation that starts now to prepare for the end of petrochemicals. These are the nations that will survive to the end of the century.

Energy Reserves

Skip to film part 3 if you already understand exponential functions. Here is a dire warning for those bent on growth, growth, growth... Named "The Most IMPORTANT Video You'll Ever See" from Dr Albert A Bartlett.
Qouting from the film;-
"The estimated U.S. Supply from undiscovered resources and demonstrated reserved is 36 years at present rates of production or 19 years in the absence of imports." Science Jan 27th 1984.
Five years later - "...These reserves and the estimated undiscovered oil represent only 16 years supply with imports ... providing 50% of U.S. needs ... the domestic stretches to 32 years." quote 1989.
So U.S. Oil was due to run out in 2003 without imports and 2020 with imports, no wonder they want to control world oil reserves!.

"The definition of modern agriculture is the use of land to convert petroleum into food"

An interesting article on Peak Oil and population.

Debunking Peak Oil is an interesting article putting the opposite view, i.e. we have at least another centuries worth of oil i.e. a trillion barrels here and there, but he does shatter confidence when he says at the ent of the page "I would think that within this century, some yet undiscovered energy source or method of extracting energy from hydrogen or even something as crazy as a water fuel cell will be discovered." A water fuel cell?  Does he understand chemistry?

In this energizing talk, Amory Lovins lays out his simple plan for weaning the US off oil and revitalizing the economy. (3/4 of car fuel use is the weight of the car.) See also www.oilendgame.com

Rob Hopkins: Transition to a world without oil

Rob Hopkins reminds us that the oil our world depends on is steadily running out. He proposes a unique solution to this problem -- the Transition response, where we prepare ourselves for life without oil and sacrifice our luxuries to build systems and communities that are completely independent of fossil fuels.
