People

These are the main people whose names come up.

Anna Ardin

What do we know about Anna Ardin? On her old blog page – now deleted, Ardin writes a mini bio:

My feminist reflections and comments on animal rights, Swedish politics and Cuba from a political scientist, Christian left and long distance runner will from now on be published at Anna Ardin Blog in Swedish.

An article on Anna Ardin describing her as "a Swedish pro-American right-wing activist" has disappeared from the Washington post website here Washington Post - Anna Ardin who the put that up or took it down and when?

Connections

Anna Ardins cousin and near friend is Lieutenant Colonel Mattias Ardin, Deputy Head of Operations, Swedish Joint Forces Land Component Command, who works with Nato Operations in Afghanistan.

"Julian Assange's chief accuser in Sweden has a significant history of work with anti-Castro groups, at least one of which is US funded and openly supported by a former CIA agent convicted in the mass murder of seventy three Cubans on an airliner he was involved in blowing up." See  Possible CIA link

I think this is a tentative link as participating in a group that happens to have another member who happens to work for the CIA is not that hard to do if you are active politically and what is a "significant" history? It is amazing how few links we are from almost anybody. They say you are six or less steps from anybody in the world.

TODO I'm still hoping for the English translation of the interview in Aftonbladet with Anna Ardin? Email me please if you find it.

Sofia Wilen

Described as a young photographer in her 20s and the second alleged victim.

TODO Any sensible information please.

Eva Finne

Eva Finne is the chief prosecutor for the Stockholm region, hears of the charges in the news, and has the case file couriered to her holiday house. On Saturday August 21, she rescinds the rape charge, but allows the ofredande charge to stand. On the basis of the police interview with Wilen, Finne says that she does not dispute her story, but sees no description of rape within the statements.

Claes Borgstrom

Claes Borgstrom is a former minister in the Social Democratic Party, and was a for a time the “gender equality ombudsman”, a civil service post. He is a well-known politician and lawyer from the same political party as Anna Arden and Sofia Wilen. It is unclear whether the complainants approached him or vice versa. He contacted the current case prosecutor Marianne Ny and had her reinstate the case and removed prosecutor Eva Finne. (Marianne Ny is the one driving the case against Assange in England. It is interesting to note that her maiden name was Borgstrom.)

Sara Gunnerud

Swedish feminist blog Rebella, which is run by Ardin and others, posts a long article by Sara Gunnerud entitled “even WikiLeaks heroes can do crappy things”, which give one account of what happened. (I believe this article has now been removed.)

Marianne Ny

Marianne Ny is the head of a special unit in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second city, 200 kilometres from Stockholm. Ny heads a special “crime development unit” and is a specialist in the development of sex crime law. Sweden’s state system allows for different departments to act “entrepreneurially” — thus, one can apply to multiple agencies (especially in the area of ombudsmen) for similar services. Director of Prosecutions Marianne Ny announced that the case against Assange will be reopened.

Leif Silbersky

Leif Silbersky was a lawyer of Julian Assange.
TODO Noted why?

Bjorn Hurtig

Julian Assange’s Swedish lawyer, Bjorn Hurtig.
TODO Noted why?

Naomi Wolf

"Naomi Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth, wrote a satirical piece asking Interpol to arrest every jerk boyfriend she'd ever had, and Naomi Klein remarked that rape accusations were being used in the same way as women's rights were used to power the Afghan war, while the Swedish group Women Against Rape questioned why this case was getting such fast-track attention." Says  TheAge

Mark Stevens

Notably Mr Mark Stevens, Assange's British lawyer says – a charge is an essential precondition for a valid European arrest warrant.

Lady Ludford

Lady Ludford MEP, the Liberal Democrat European justice and human rights spokeswoman, claimed the arrest warrant system, which she said she supported, was being used by Sweden to carry out a fishing expedition. Sweden had yet to formally charge Assange with any offence.

In a letter to the Guardian, Ludford wrote that past cases showed that it was “not a legitimate purpose for an EAW to be used to conduct an investigation to see whether that person should be prosecuted”. She added: “Normal cross-border cooperation on collection of evidence or interrogation of suspects called ‘mutual legal assistance’, using for example video-conferencing or a summons for temporary transfer of a suspect, should be used when more appropriate. “I urge the UK courts to refuse to allow the Assange EAW to be a fishing expedition without a pending actual prosecution. EU rules should be properly respected so that the integrity of the European arrest warrant process is protected.”

District Judge Riddle

DJ Riddle is handling the extradition case.

Karl Rove

Karl Rove suspected involvement
