Collateral Murder

TODO What was the range of the helicopter on the TADS

Many people are now familiar with the release by Wikileaks of the Apache helicopter killing seemingly innocent journalists. Frankly it looks like an assassination of journalists on YouTube and this is the apparently censored version of the video.

However if one watches the full 39 minute video from the Apache and the additional supporting material, at

http://www.collateralmurder.com/en/index.html

it becomes clear that the story is more complex. It is of course possible that this is a later doctored version of the video put up for us by a site that isn't really Wikileaks.

The talk by the ground soldier Ethan McCord on the van attack adds a lot to the perspective including the view that one should accept unjustified killing as routine.

In this full material it is clear that there is some small arms activity on the ground before the Apache engages and it also seems that there is little doubt that certainly one of the men of the engaged group does have an RPG and some have AK47s though the edited version makes them look unarmed. This is not to say that the Routers journalists were themselves armed.

Clearly there was an over enthusiasm to attack the van that later appears and perhaps an explanation for this will come forth later.

What this proves is that "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth," is far better then half hearted incomplete stories trying to make terrible things palatable.
